Planning a Wedding at Thurlby Domain. Your Timeline Questions Answered
Planning a wedding at Thurlby Domain? Whether you're just starting to dream about your day or you've already fallen in love with the grounds, timing matters. Here are the questions we get asked most, answered.
How far in advance should we book Thurlby Domain?
For popular dates — especially spring and summer weekends — we'd recommend enquiring 12 to 18 months out. Queenstown is a sought-after wedding destination, and our calendar fills quickly for the warmer months. If you're set on a winter date or a weekday, you may have a little more flexibility closer to the time, but booking early always gives you the best pick of dates and more breathing room to plan everything else around it.
What's the best time of year to enquire?
Any time, honestly — but the earlier the better. Many couples start reaching out as soon as they get engaged, even if their wedding is still a year or two away. Enquiring early means you can lock in your preferred venue (The Ruins or The Stables), get ahead of vendor bookings, and take the pressure off closer to the day.
Do we need a wedding planner, or can Thurlby help coordinate?
You don't need a planner to have a wedding at Thurlby Domain, but many couples choose to work with one — particularly if they're planning from overseas or out of town. A planner can be a huge help with logistics, vendor coordination, and timeline management, and there are several who know our grounds well. That said, our team is always on hand to answer questions about the venue itself and help things run smoothly on the day.
What's included in the venue hire?
Venue hire gives you access to our grounds and spaces — including The Ruins and/or The Stables depending on what you book — set within the historic Thurlby Domain estate. Catering, styling, florals, photography and other elements are arranged separately through your own choice of vendors. This gives you full flexibility to build a day that reflects your style and budget, rather than being locked into a fixed package.
